Snow and Inclement Weather Information

A Message from the Superintendent….

The safety of children is my primary concern as Superintendent of the Hopedale Public Schools. On snowy mornings, I work in partnership with the Hopedale Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments. If it is safe to drive and walk in Hopedale, I will open school. Our staff understands that they may have to get up and out very early if they are distant travelers, and they must make accommodations.

I ask that you PLEASE ENCOURAGE your children to do their homework and be prepared for their school responsibilities. Information will be posted on the website, announced by local media, and shared through our new Blackboard Connect Emergency Notification System when the decision is made.

Despite my best information and judgment, there will be days when the weather turns nastier than I have estimated. These can be long days for all of us. On any day, I invite you to assess your particular circumstance or location and overrule my judgment if that is the right decision for your child. It is your prerogative and responsibility to keep your child home if you believe it is unsafe for them to travel to or from school. Thanks for your help and cooperation!

Out of School Time Programs:

~If school is cancelled due to snow or other inclement weather, all day care programs are cancelled.
~If there is a delay in school opening, Breakfast Bunch will open at 8:00 AM to provide time for parking lot and walkways to be cleared.
~If school is dismissed due to inclement weather, after
school care will be cancelled. Parents and children are expected to follow their “Family Contingency Plan”.
~If weather becomes inclement towards the end of the school day, the director may initiate
the Family Contingency Plans. In these cases, after school day care programs will operate with
minimal staffing only until all children have been picked up. Parents are asked to arrange for
their child to be picked up as soon as possible for the safety of children and staff alike.
